Alright. I felt guilty even admitting that I was writing code without using any version control. I created a repository and now have it and my workspace backing up to a second machine every day.
Also, I’ll probably be storing all my data files in xml, and using the xml.dom.minidom package. Seems pretty straight-forward.
1.0 Hour of […]

It’s been two weeks since I last reported on the NoName game. There’s not that much to report.
I’ve probably spent about 30 hours over the past couple weeks working on this project. `wc` reports that I have exactly 555 lines of code. And that includes sql and test scripts, and probable some code […]

Picking up where I left off earlier about learning python…
Normally, I wouldn’t write about a few-days-old project I’m working on — one that still has a very chance of going nowhere before I get interested in the next shiny object.
The reason I decided to write about it is because I read the A Django website […]

Up until about 10 days ago, I didn’t know anything about python other than “it’s a computer programming language a little bit like perl,” and I decided to learn the language. I’m starting a new individual project, and I’m going to do it in python.
What’s the project? I’m going to write a game.
Background: I play […]

I’ve gotten dozens of emails over the past couple days about The Software Wars Map — all of it positive. Many people had suggestions, some had criticisms of a sort, but it was all positive — except for one, single message. I’ve included it below.
I’m going to pull out the suggestions from the other emails […]

I took a vacatation on Thursday to go to a special charity screening of Serenity. My wife was coordinating the activities of the Raleigh venue, so I was gone from early afternoon till late in the evening. Right before bed, I figured I’d check my email — and I found that I’d gotten dozens of […]

When surfing on the Web, I’m a little paranoid, and I think that’s a good thing. It’s surprising and a bit scary to know just how much data web sites can collect about a person, just from tracking their casual surfing habits. I’ve taken a few steps to protect my privacy, security and safety while […]

I put up my Software Wars Map way back in January, and it pretty much just sat there. In late May, for some reason, I suddenly started getting a several thousand hits per day from StumbleUpon, which is pretty amazing considering my site previously was getting only about 30-50 hits per day, mainly to my […]

This is a video clip of some demoing the “new” features of Windows Vista, except that some clever person has kept the audio of someone revealing how “groundbreaking” the new features are, but has replaced the video with someone demoing the described features on a Mac OSX installation — available right now.
This must be pretty […]

I hate job listings that describe what the job might become in the future if the immediate project is successful. It seems inheritly dishonest to tempt people to apply for a possible good future job as a package deal with a current lower-paying, short-term job.
I’m not really looking for a work. I bitch and moan […]
