NoName Game
Alright, while I’m in the writing mood, I created a new category on the blog specifically for game related posts, as I think it’ll be occupying my mind for a while. I also created a status page on my wiki for it at the NoName Game page.
Like the status section says: there is “no status to report.”
Just yesterday, I found out about pylint and pychecker.
Over the weekend I found out about the MySQLdb module. I’m not sure how to link to that package, because most of the google results link to a much older package that has been marked obsolete. I don’t want to link to any of those pages to increase their pagerank. But the ubuntu repositories had 1.2.1 as the latest version, and that’s what I installed. The best page for documenation of the mysqldb package is at the Python Database API Specification v2.0 (PEP #0249).
And I didn’t even know about PEPs until a couple days ago, too. I owe that bit of knowledge to the folks in #python on irc.freenode.net.
So, you can see, when it comes to python, I’m really into deep n00b mode at the moment.
I had guessed about 30 or so hours up to this point that is taking high-level notes about the project itself, and at the same time reading lots of basic documentation about python. And there’s always more documentation to read.
I am not planning on immediately using one of the various “frameworks” out there, like Django. At this point, I really want to get my hands as dirty as possible, learning the language itself. Efficiency is not my goal — yet.
It’ll probably be a few weeks before anything remotely useful happens.
