Rumsfeld ponders new doublespeak word for Iraqi insurgents

Posted in Politics at 5:31 pm by mshiltonj

Don’t call it an ‘insurgency’: Rumsfeld:

“U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld argued on Tuesday that the guerrillas fighting U.S.-led foreign forces and the American-backed government in Iraq do not deserve to be called an ‘insurgency.’…

Rumsfeld instead referred to the guerrillas in Iraq as ‘the terrorists’ and ‘the enemies of the government.’ U.S. military statements also have referred to insurgents as ‘anti-Iraqi forces.’”

Why doesn’t he just use Bush’s favorite word for any group that he wants to bomb — “evildoers?” He could have call Al Jazeera a bunch of evildoers and let the bombs fly. Interesting how the terms one chooses can frame the debate. This would be great propaganda if it weren’t so obvious.

Well, I hope it’s obvious.
