Why am I blogging again?
Why my renewed interest in blogging? Google recently introduced its Google Reader service, and it makes keeping up with sites via RSS feeds very, very easy. I’ve tried a couple rss aggregators before, like bloglines or the Sage Firefox extension, but none ever really did it for me, although I could see the potential.
Google’s Reader, however, nailed it for me. They did what I thought an RSS aggregator it should do. It’s a little slow, and it was a pain to set up, but it’s pretty darned cool. It’s in beta, and it needs a few tweaks, but its largely what I want an RSS aggregator to be.
So I started using it. In just a few days, it’s become practically my primary interface to the Internet. Almost all of the sites I regularly visit have feeds of some kind, so I subscribed to them. I am able to keep up with a lot more information in a lot less time. Sweet.
The problem however, is that even though Reader has made me more efficient, I am now suffering from too much information. I subscribed to a number of feeds from sites that I like, but was not in the habit of reading every day. I quickly learned that they publish much more content than I was used to reading from them. I never knew what I missed. In fact, there’s *a lot* of content I have been missing.
A bonus however, is that many of these feeds are from people I know. I had been missing their blog posts because I didn’t go to their sites often enough. Now that I get thier new posts automatically, I see how easy it is to post.
So why shouldn’t I be blogging myself? I’ve got lots to bitch and moan about. Why should my audience be limited to just those within earshot? ;) With all this new information coming in on Reader, I’m just bursting at the seams with comments.
Stay tuned.
