Where to blog?
I’ve never really kept a consistent blog. I’ve had many over the past few years, in different locations, and they’ve all fizzled. I think each time I switched between a hosted blog, like here on Blogger, and running some sort of blog software on my own site. I occilate back and forth between the two choices.
Pros for hosting with blogger (vs drupal):
* Better interface than drupal
* Users don’t have to sign up or register specifically on my site in order to post comments.
* I don’t have to worry about security issues myself.
* Blogger seems to be at the center of the blogoshpere
* BlogThis bookmarklet
* I give up control.
* I don’t have to worry about any registered users.
Cons for hosting with blogger (vs drupal):
* no stats — can’t see traffic, referers, keyword hits, nothing.
* can’t post the first few paragraphs of a post to the index page, with a “read full story” on the story page.
* can’t future publish
* no trackback
* drupal has *tons* of extensions. It’s more than blogging software.
I guess blogger wins for now. I could configure blogger to publish to my site, if I really start caring about the traffic and stats. Once the content is on my server, I can run whateve stats analysis I like.
